About Me
I am Thom McClain, just a local tech guy. For over ten years I have worked officially and unofficially as a tech guy. I spent 3 years teaching older adults basic computer education at a local Salvation Army branch. I am currently in my second year attaining my Associates Degree from ITT-Tech. I also have a Masters Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelors Degree in Communication, both from the University of Pittsburgh.
From my teaching days at the Salvation Army, I learned that there was a need for affordable tech help in the community. Too often, people are ripped off getting help for computer problems. I try to be an example that it doesn't have to be that way, that you can find dependable, trustworthy help at a affordable price.
I started out in an unusual way. About 18 years ago, I purchased my first computer, a Packard Bell, 50 Mhz. computer running windows 3.1 ( I think). I paid over $200 to add memory to it from the local Computer City store (Miracle Mile Mall, now a DSW shoe store). I always had a sense that I paid to much and that it was easier to do it yourself. The problem was that I didn't know how to do it myself. 18 years later, I now know how to do it myself, which leads me to this website. I thought about this site for many years and finally decided to dive in and just do it. I cannot promise that you will be able to do all your repairs and troubleshooting yourself, but I can pledge to make my best effort to ensure that this website will be a place where you can get honest information and answers to your problems. You will also get reliable, trustworthy repairs and/or help with your computer. You will have a better understanding of that computer you are using.
Never let fear keep you from doing what you know you are good at. In life, bad things will always happen to you. I can personally confirm that. The key is not what happened to you, but what you do in response. It took me awhile to figure out how to respond. Here is a piece of advice that I would pass along is this; Find what you are good at and do it better than anybody else. If you do, you may or may not be successful, but you will be happy. Be Happy Everyone
Special thank you to Mom, I know you worry like most mother's do. This site is as much for you as it is for me. Every day that you see this site, know that I am alright and doing what I love.
Christian and Cameron, you guys are always there smiling and expecting the best out of me.
