HP Touchpad

Sometime tomorrow I will be getting a HP Touchpad tablet.  To be honest, not sure why, maybe I just want to play with Android apps to see how they are.  Since the Touchpad is now extinct (as far as support and production) this should be an interesting experiment.  At least I am getting it cheap, so it's worth a look.  A review will be forthcoming.

The Nikon experience

So far so good, if not taking a bit longer than expected.  Seems when you return an item to Nikon, they have a neat online system you can log on to and check your repair.  A quick recap:  My Nikon AW100 "rugged" camera is not so rugged after one drop.  Off to the post office and back to Nikon, now awaiting my camera.  More when the camera is back home.

Sorry it took so long mom...

It would figure that the most frustrating and irritating repair jobs are those that you don't get paid for.  It only took 7 hours for Malwarebytes to scan her complete hard drive.  It found a nifty 699 items to eliminate.  After a nice cleaning, several uninstalls and disabling many annoying programs, her system seems ready to go again.  Normally I would just reformat the computer and start from scratch, but the last time I did that, she complained for 6 months about having to start all of her games over again to get back to the same levels she was at previously.  I think it's time to upgrade her.

Ever wonder where that Youtube video was made?

Of course you do!  If you are bored, try this interesting site, You Tube Videos Near Me.  Simply put, you plot yourself on a map and the site will give you pindrops of Youtube videos that were made near you.  By default it will use GPS and your Internet connection to locate you.  The program searches YouTube videos that have been geo-tagged and locates any within a 2 mile radius of you.  After that happy searching!

What were you doing one year ago today?

If you don't know, let Timehop remind you.  Cool website that will send you daily emails that will remind you of what you were doing a year ago that day.  It does so be searching through your social media connections to give you a daily glimpse to what you were doing.  Oddly addictive

Sync documents to Google Docs & other cloud services w/ Allway Sync

Allway Sync is a backup wonder that syncs to a number of cloud services, including Amazon S3, Dropbox, and Windows Azure. Get instructions on installing and using the tool.  I’m always on the lookout for a free or cheap backup tool that offers features other solutions don’t, so when I came across Allway Sync, I was quite excited. Allway Sync can do the usual backups (sync’ing folders to an external drive, using ssh, Microsoft ActiveSync folder, etc.), but it can also sync to other services most other backups can’t. The easy-to-use tool can work with these solutions:

In Allway Sync, you can you set up the syncronization of a local folder to one of the cloud services and create different jobs to sync folders to different services. Here are just three examples of what can be set up to sync with this little backup wonder:

  • A folder to be sync’d with Google Docs.
  • A folder outside of the standard Dropbox folder to be sync’d with Dropbox.
  • A folder you would like to sync with your Amazon A3 account.

Allway Sync works in Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/7. Allway Sync Free is available for non-profits and as a 30-day trial for all customers.
