Online storage the free way...if you put in the work

One of my pages lists the 3-2-1 strategy for backing up your computer(s).  One of the methods is online storage, as you need a backup to the backup sitting next to your computer.  One of the pains of online storage is that for a lot of it, you have to pay for it.  But if you are willing to deal with multiple accounts, you can pretty much get all the storage you need for free.  For me, here is how my storage breaks down

Google Drive - 5 GB Free

Skydrive - 25 GB Free

Box - 50 GB Free

Pogoplug - 10 GB Free

Dropbox - 3GB Free

Google Music - Up to 25,000 MP3's for free

At this point I have 93 GB of totally free storage, and all my MP3's are backed up for free outside that amount.  I'm about to get another 5GB from Sugarsync and JustCloud offers unlimited free storage.  So if you want to steer away from Mozy (which also gives you a 2GB free plan) or Carbonite, try using all of those services.  They all have mobile apps and you can access your data from anywhere.  Now I just have to figure out how to divide up all this data amongst all the services.
